The Alpha Wolf boss is your first major obstacle on your undead journey to supremacy in V Rising, but the biggest challenge is actually tracking it down. The Blood Altar points out where to find the boss, but only in the vaguest sense, and depending on where you end up, it might not spawn anyway.
We've put together this guide to show you the Alpha Wolf location, and what to do if it decides not to spawn in that specific area. We're also going to show you how to unlock the Wolf Form, which will help you on your journey to becoming a powerful Vampire by allowing you to morph into different animals.
Where is the Alpha Wolf in V Rising?
The Alpha Wolf is in a Wolf’s Den in eastern Farbane Woods, though you can only challenge it once you’re level 16. The fight is part of V Rising’s tutorial quest chain, so reaching that level should be no issue, but it’s worth taking some extra time to grind your item to 20 or so.
Head east from the Bandit Copper Mine, which is north of the Desecrated Graveyard, and you’ll eventually stumble on the den. As with all boss battles in V Rising, the battle will start as soon as you approach the boss, so make sure you’re prepared before tracking it down.
Alpha Wolf not spawning
Some players reported the Alpha Wolf appeared in other Wolf Dens around Farbane Woods, so if the wolf won’t show up at the eastern Wolf Den, you’ll want to track down a few of the others. There are two more on the eastern side of the woods, so just follow the blood trail, and it’ll eventually lead you to the right one.
How to beat the Alpha Wolf in V Rising
The Alpha Wolf may be the first boss you face, but it’s still a tough one, so we've provided a few pointers to help you out. First things first, as a Level 16 V Blood Boss, you're going to want to also make sure that you're Level 16 or higher so you stand a fighting chance against the enemy.
The Alpha Wolf's attacks primarily consist of lunges and leaps. Due to this, they'll stay relatively close to you as they try to snap you up in an attack. Remain cautious and keep your distance where you can, steering clear of and dodging their jumps. If you're able to use ranged attacks, stay back and chip away at their HP with these. Keep it up, and tackling the Alpha Wolf shouldn't be too troublesome.
On the other hand, if you're not going to be using magic, it's vital that you recognise the Alpha Wolf's attacks so that you have a good chance of avoiding them. As you whittle away the wolfs HP bar, their lunges will soon become claw and biting attacks, signalling that it's now much weaker.
As a close-range player, all you need to do is dodge these attacks as you did with the lunges, then go in for some of your own immediately after the Alpha Wolf has finished. This is a tiny window of time, but enough to do some damage.
Eventually, the Alpha Wolf will summon two more wolf counterparts to fight alongside it. These guys are smaller and easier to take on. Focus on attacking them first and getting the summons out of the way, as the last thing you want is to be fighting three wolves at once. Once you've dealt with the summons, the Alpha Wolf will be extremely vulnerable. They're now low HP, with no summons to aid them.
At this point, you'll be able to easily finish off the fight, dodging and counterattacking where necessary.
How to unlock Wolf Form in V Rising
After the battle, absorb the Alpha Wolf’s V Blood to obtain your first special power. If you don't have a horse in V Rising just yet, the Wolf Form power is going to be a very pleasant treat for you.
Wolf Form is also pretty useful as it can provide your character with a speed boost of 45%... this is pretty significant! And with animals on your side, you don't need to worry about any furry friends trying to attack you, either.
